As most Helicopter operators are probably aware, OEM's have not always embraced the concept of component repair. They have cited concerns such as the lack of access to our design process and, at times, questioned the legality of the process. They have always preferred the use of their replacement spares or their own repair processes. As far as the operators, maintenance facilities and even the FAA are concerned, the value of our component repairs has always been clear.
Early in the 1990's, one of the largest rotorcraft OEM's broke ranks and pursued what had previously not been considered. With an interest in providing enhanced product support
while lowering their customers' operating costs, Eurocopter approached Able to discuss a limited partnership. The initial dialog was limited and at that time the climate was not quite right to see the completion of a working partnership. However, the concept never died.
Throughout the later half of the 1990's, Able and Eurocopter left the communication lines open and the relationship continued to strengthen. The discussion culminated with a real breakthrough at the 2000 HAI Heli-Expo. Over the next year and a half, Able and Eurocopter drafted the formal terms of the partnership and in October of 2001, all parties signed the partnering agreement which officially endorsed and named Able as a Eurocopter approved component repair facility.
Since then, Able's relationships with both the customer support and engineering organizations within Eurocopter have become quite strong. The cooperation between the partners continues on a daily basis.
